The Caretaker's Last Recording

A night-shift caretaker plays back the previous shift's tape and hears himself answer questions he has not yet asked.

On a remote highway service station, the night caretaker discovers the previous shift left a tape running. As he listens, the recording answers the questions he has been thinking, then begins telling him what is about to happen in the building. By the third hour, the voice on the tape is no longer his predecessor — and it is calling him by name.
